I have always been a sucker for images that have lightning strikes and light trails from passing cars. If you look through my Weather Gallery here on my site you will find a number of examples of what I always think of as lasers and lightning.
I made this image on the last night of my recent trip to Arizona for work and storm chasing. While it wasn’t the most photogenic thunderstorms I have ever chased, and it was actually further away than I would have liked, I do have a memory from this trip that will be with me for a long time.
Even though I wasn’t deep into the desert that night, I was still far enough out that if cars weren’t driving by it was still very quiet and dark. While standing out in the desert, in the silence and the dark, a pack of coyotes to the south west of me started to howl. That by itself would have been cool, but another pack to the north of me started to answer back. I know a lot of people who would have been frightened to have two different coyotes howling nearby, heck, I know people that are scared of any noise out in the desert after dark, but personally I loved it. Even though I don’t like living in the desert, I certainly do enjoy visiting it. :-)
